About & SERVICES

The JFA Practice is based in Jersey, Channel Islands. Principal Jane Blakeley qualified as a chartered RIBA architect in 1993 and worked with one of the largest local practices initially working on a mixture of projects from commercial to residential, and small to large scale. This prior to setting up Jane Faulkner Architect RIBA in 1996 (JFA a later abbreviation). The Practice gives particular focus to house architecture seeing this as a specialty area. In contrast this extends to a strong interest in how buildings fit into their environments and built environments which is now taking focus to larger more complex projects & utilises Jane’s expertise and qualification in urban design.  JFA remains a small boutique practice with an affirmed list of respected professionals and consultants working with us endeavouring always to provide a personal service tailored to each projects requirements.

Jersey has a unique blend of English and french architecture. Traditionally stone walls have emphasized the medieval granite homestead, then the new cement rendered technology to the large luxurious cod houses of the Cod fishing era extending from the 18th century through to the late 19th century, and now with a range of contemporary design and construction methods for the 21st century. The JFA Practice gives strong focus to the blend of traditional & contemporary design appropriate to the 21st century idiom. The dilemma between building & landscape provides an opportunity to explore this and in particular with the home.

The Practice formed a collaboration with UK practice Collier Reading Architects with whom it works on more complex projects.  Collier Reading Architects are based in Somerset, and share a similar design ethos to JFA Architect. Locally Jane is assisted by several freelance designers of varying qualification and expertise.

House Architecture:

"Our homes no longer need to be confined to simply four walls, we can explore the opportunity of the 'outside being brought in', says Jane, 'and garden landscape and design merging as an extension of the home'.
